CaptiFi Device Setup
Complete setup guide for the CaptiFi plug-and-play WiFi device.
Under 5 Minutes
Most customers have their CaptiFi device up and running in under 5 minutes. Just plug in, connect, and enrol — no networking knowledge required.
Setup Checklist
Before you start, make sure you have everything:

Can't find your PIN?
Your Device PIN is sent by email when your order is confirmed. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for an email from CaptiFi. If you still can't find it, contact us at hello@captifi.io.
Physical Setup
1. Connect Power via PoE
[PoE Injector] ---Ethernet---> [CaptiFi Device]

[Power Outlet]- Connect the Ethernet cable from the PoE port on the injector → CaptiFi device
- Plug the PoE injector into a power outlet
- Wait ~60 seconds for the device to boot
LED Status: Yellow flashing = booting up ✅
2. Connect to Network
[Internet Router] ---Ethernet---> [PoE Injector LAN port]- Connect an Ethernet cable from a spare router port → LAN port on the PoE injector
- Wait for the LED to change colour
LED Status: Solid purple = connected, awaiting enrolment ✅
3. Enrol in Dashboard
- Log in to app.captifi.io
- Navigate to Settings → Devices
- Click Add Device
- Enter your Device PIN (sent to you by email)
- Click Enrol
LED Status: Blue pulsing = enrolling… then Solid green = all good! ✅
Placement Tips
Optimal Placement
- Mount high — ceiling or high wall for best coverage
- Central location — centre of the area you want to cover
- Away from interference — avoid microwaves, thick walls, metal surfaces
- Line of sight — fewer obstacles = better signal
Adding Additional Access Points
Need more coverage? Additional CaptiFi devices cost +£10/month each.
- Order an additional device from your dashboard or contact us
- A new Device PIN will be emailed to you
- Follow the same physical setup and enrolment process above
- The device is automatically linked to your account and location
LED Reference
| LED State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 🟡 Yellow flashing | Booting up (wait ~60s) |
| 🟣 Solid purple | Connected, awaiting enrolment |
| 🔵 Blue pulsing | Enrolling with CaptiFi |
| 🟢 Solid green | All good — fully operational |
| 🔵 Solid blue | VPN connecting |
| 🔴 Solid red | No internet connection |
| 🔴 Red fast flash | Failsafe mode |
| ⚪ White pulsing | Firmware update in progress |

Troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| LED stays yellow for more than 2 minutes | Ensure the PoE injector is powered on and the Ethernet cable is firmly seated in the PoE port |
| LED stays purple (never turns green) | Make sure the LAN port on the PoE injector is connected to your router; check the router has a spare port with internet access |
| LED is solid red | The device cannot reach the internet — check the Ethernet connection to your router and verify your internet is working |
| LED is red fast flash | Device is in failsafe mode — power-cycle the device (unplug PoE injector for 10 seconds, then plug back in) |
| PIN not accepted in dashboard | Double-check the PIN from your confirmation email; ensure there are no extra spaces; PINs are case-sensitive |
| White pulsing for a long time | A firmware update is in progress — do not unplug the device; it will reboot automatically when complete |
| Guest WiFi not appearing | Wait 2–3 minutes after the LED turns green; if still not visible, power-cycle the device |
| Splash page not appearing for guests | Verify the device is enrolled (LED should be solid green); check your splash page is published in the CaptiFi dashboard |
