Reset Guide

The CaptiFi device has a reset button that performs different actions depending on how long you press it.

Reset Types

Quick Restart (< 1 second)

A gentle reboot. The device restarts without losing any settings.

  1. Press the reset button briefly (less than 1 second)
  2. LED will flash yellow (booting)
  3. Wait ~60 seconds
  4. LED should return to solid green

TIP

This is the equivalent of "turn it off and on again." Try this first for most issues.

Network Reset (3-5 seconds)

Resets network settings while keeping enrollment intact.

  1. Press and hold the reset button for 3-5 seconds
  2. Release when LED changes colour
  3. Device will reboot and reconnect
  4. Wait 1-2 minutes for it to come back online

Use when:

  • Device can't connect after router changes
  • IP address conflicts
  • Network configuration issues

Factory Reset (10+ seconds)

Complete Wipe

Factory reset erases ALL settings including enrollment. You will need to re-enroll the device after a factory reset.

  1. Press and hold the reset button for 10+ seconds
  2. LED will flash rapidly, then go dark
  3. Release the button
  4. Device will reboot (yellow flashing)
  5. LED will turn solid purple (awaiting enrollment)
  6. Re-enroll the device in your CaptiFi dashboard

Use when:

  • Red fast-flashing LED (failsafe mode)
  • Device is completely unresponsive
  • Preparing device for a new venue/account

After Any Reset

  1. Wait for the device to fully reboot (yellow flashing → next state)
  2. Check the LED Guide to confirm status
  3. If LED is green, you're good to go
  4. If LED is purple, re-enroll in dashboard
