WiFi Access Points
Monitor and manage your WiFi access points from the CaptiFi dashboard.
Overview
The Access Points page shows all WiFi hardware connected to your CaptiFi account. Monitor their online/offline status, see connected guest counts, and manage your network in real time. Access points are the physical devices that broadcast your WiFi network and route guests through the CaptiFi captive portal.
Viewing Access Points
- Log in to app.captifi.io.
- Go to My Venues → WiFi Access Points in the sidebar.

Understanding AP Status
| Status | Meaning | Action |
|---|---|---|
| 🟢 Online | AP is working and connected to CaptiFi | No action needed |
| 🔴 Offline | AP has lost connection to CaptiFi | Check power, Ethernet cable, and internet connection at the venue |
💡 Tip: If an AP shows as offline but your internet is working, try power-cycling the device (unplug for 10 seconds, then plug back in). Most connectivity issues resolve within 2–3 minutes of a reboot.
Notifications
You can receive instant alerts when access points go online or offline:
| Channel | How to Enable |
|---|---|
| Email alerts | Toggle Access Point Notifications in Account → Notification Preferences |
| SMS alerts | Requires SMS integration — toggle Access Point Alerts in your SMS notification settings |
Both email and SMS alerts can be enabled simultaneously for critical monitoring.
Adding Access Points
CaptiFi Plug & Play Device
The CaptiFi device is a pre-configured WiFi 6 access point that works out of the box:
- Receive your CaptiFi device (shipped after completing onboarding).
- Plug the device into power and connect it to your router/switch via the included Ethernet cable.
- Wait for the device to boot up (1–2 minutes — see the LED guide for status indicator meanings).
- Enter the enrollment PIN from your welcome email when prompted.
- The device appears in your Access Points list automatically.
💡 Tip: For detailed unboxing and setup instructions, see What's in the Box and Device Setup.
UniFi Access Points
If you're using existing Ubiquiti UniFi access points, they are automatically discovered and imported when you connect your UniFi controller:
- Connect your UniFi controller during onboarding or via the UniFi setup guide.
- CaptiFi discovers your UniFi sites and access points.
- Select which sites and APs to manage.
- APs appear in your Access Points list with live status updates.
Other Hardware
CaptiFi also supports access points from other manufacturers. See our setup guides for:
Multi-Venue AP Management
If you manage multiple venues, each access point is assigned to a specific site/venue. Use the Site column in the AP table to see which venue each AP belongs to, or use the site filter to view APs for a specific location only.
To move an AP from one venue to another, contact support at hello@captifi.io.

Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| AP showing offline | Power or network issue | Check the power supply and Ethernet cable are securely connected. Verify the venue's internet connection is working. |
| AP online but no splash page | Captive portal not configured on the AP | Verify captive portal settings — see the relevant setup guide for your hardware. |
| New CaptiFi device not appearing | Enrollment PIN not entered | Check your welcome email for the PIN and enter it during device setup. If you've lost the email, contact support. |
| New UniFi AP not appearing | Controller connection issue | Verify your UniFi controller credentials in CaptiFi. Re-run site discovery if needed — see the UniFi setup guide. |
| Intermittent offline status | Unstable internet at the venue | Check your internet connection stability. Consider a wired backhaul if the AP is connected via WiFi mesh. |
| AP online but low guest count | AP placement or signal issues | Ensure the AP is placed centrally with good coverage. Walls and interference from other devices can reduce range. See Hardware FAQs for placement tips. |
