WiFi Access Points

Monitor and manage your WiFi access points from the CaptiFi dashboard.

Overview

The Access Points page shows all WiFi hardware connected to your CaptiFi account. Monitor their online/offline status, see connected guest counts, and manage your network in real time. Access points are the physical devices that broadcast your WiFi network and route guests through the CaptiFi captive portal.

Viewing Access Points

Understanding AP Status

StatusMeaningAction
🟢 OnlineAP is working and connected to CaptiFiNo action needed
🔴 OfflineAP has lost connection to CaptiFiCheck power, Ethernet cable, and internet connection at the venue

💡 Tip: If an AP shows as offline but your internet is working, try power-cycling the device (unplug for 10 seconds, then plug back in). Most connectivity issues resolve within 2–3 minutes of a reboot.

Notifications

You can receive instant alerts when access points go online or offline:

ChannelHow to Enable
Email alertsToggle Access Point Notifications in Account → Notification Preferences
SMS alertsRequires SMS integration — toggle Access Point Alerts in your SMS notification settings

Both email and SMS alerts can be enabled simultaneously for critical monitoring.

Adding Access Points

CaptiFi Plug & Play Device

The CaptiFi device is a pre-configured WiFi 6 access point that works out of the box:

  1. Receive your CaptiFi device (shipped after completing onboarding).
  2. Plug the device into power and connect it to your router/switch via the included Ethernet cable.
  3. Wait for the device to boot up (1–2 minutes — see the LED guide for status indicator meanings).
  4. Enter the enrollment PIN from your welcome email when prompted.
  5. The device appears in your Access Points list automatically.

💡 Tip: For detailed unboxing and setup instructions, see What's in the Box and Device Setup.

UniFi Access Points

If you're using existing Ubiquiti UniFi access points, they are automatically discovered and imported when you connect your UniFi controller:

  1. Connect your UniFi controller during onboarding or via the UniFi setup guide.
  2. CaptiFi discovers your UniFi sites and access points.
  3. Select which sites and APs to manage.
  4. APs appear in your Access Points list with live status updates.

Other Hardware

CaptiFi also supports access points from other manufacturers. See our setup guides for:

Multi-Venue AP Management

If you manage multiple venues, each access point is assigned to a specific site/venue. Use the Site column in the AP table to see which venue each AP belongs to, or use the site filter to view APs for a specific location only.

To move an AP from one venue to another, contact support at hello@captifi.io.
