Device Status Guide
Your CaptiFi device shows its basic state on the LED, and the full picture lives in your dashboard under My Locations and WiFi Access Points.
The Device LED
The light on the front of the device tells you exactly which state it is in. Solid green is the normal running state: once the device is activated and online it stays green.
| LED | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Off | No power | Check the PoE injector power and both cables (or the PoE switch port) |
| Yellow, flashing | Booting | Wait 30 to 60 seconds |
| Purple, solid | Waiting to be activated. The device is broadcasting the CaptiFi Setup network | Connect a phone to that network and enter your 8-digit PIN (see Device Setup) |
| Blue, pulsing | Activating. Your PIN was accepted and the device is configuring itself | Wait 1 to 2 minutes |
| Green, solid | Activated, online, guest WiFi live | Nothing. This is the normal running state |
| Blue, solid | Internet is fine but the secure tunnel to CaptiFi is down | Usually clears itself. If not, check UDP 51820 is not blocked |
| Red, solid | No internet | Check the Ethernet cable and your router |
| Red, fast flashing | Failsafe | Contact support at hello@captifi.io |
| White, pulsing | Installing a firmware update | Do not unplug. It takes 2 to 5 minutes |
Dashboard Status
The authoritative status is in your dashboard — log in to my.captifi.io and check My Locations (or WiFi Access Points for the full list):
| Status | Meaning | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Online (green) | Device is connected and the portal is active | None — you're all set |
| Connecting (amber) | Device is initialising | Wait a few minutes |
| Offline (red) | Device cannot be reached | Check power, the Ethernet cable, and your venue's internet connection |
If the Device Won't Come Online
- Check the Ethernet cable is firmly connected at both ends
- Confirm the device has power (the LED is lit)
- Verify your router has a working internet connection (test with another device)
- Try a different Ethernet port on your router or switch
- Unplug the device for 10 seconds, plug it back in, and wait 3 minutes
- If your venue has a managed firewall, make sure outbound TCP 443 and UDP 51820 are allowed — see Network Troubleshooting
